Las Vegas, NV (March 25, 2013) – Senator Richard Bryan, a shareholder in the Firm’s Gaming & Regulatory Law Department and member of its Executive Committee, was honored at the Clark County Bar Association’s annual 40 Year Club Induction Ceremony Luncheon. He celebrated a new milestone in his illustrious career, marking his 50th anniversary as a member of the Nevada Bar.
Admitted to the Bar in 1963, Senator Bryan, a native Nevadan, embarked on his distinguished legal and public service career, serving as Deputy District Attorney and as the first Public Defender in Clark County (Las Vegas), Nevada. Starting in 1968, he was elected to public office as a member of the Nevada State Legislature, where he served two terms in the state Assembly and two terms in the state Senate.
Senator Bryan won his first statewide election as Nevada’s Attorney General where he played a major role in successfully defending Nevada’s gaming regulatory structure in the Federal Courts. In 1982, he was elected to the first of two terms as Governor. Under his leadership as Nevada’s Governor, economic diversification and the attraction of new businesses to Nevada became a priority. In 1988 he was elected to the first of two terms in the U.S. Senate. He was the only Senate member to simultaneously serve on these U.S. Senate Committees: Finance; Commerce, Science and Transportation; and Banks, Housing and Urban Affairs.
Upon leaving office, Senator Bryan joined Lionel Sawyer & Collins in 2001, where his practice focuses on government relations at the federal, state and local levels. He is included in The Best Lawyers in America for Government Relations Law and Land Use and Zoning Law. He also has an AV rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Directory.
Senator Bryan remains an active community and business leader in Nevada. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, which encourages businesses to relocate to Nevada. Senator Bryan is also on the Board of Trustees of the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce and serves as a Board member for The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. He is Chairman of the Board for Preserve Nevada, a group whose priority is to preserve historical buildings, places, and historical artifacts in the State of Nevada.
